About
Becky Gilmartin is a Chartered Physiotherapist graduating from the University of Salford with a 1st class Honours degree in physiotherapy. From university she entered the NHS in a junior rotation post, before progressing to a Specialist Physiotherapist role in Adults with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities.
Becky currently works in private practice treating all kinds of musculoskeletal conditions in people using a wide range of skills and techniques during her treatments. This may include; Western Medical Acupuncture, Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Joint mobilisation and manipulation, APPI Pilates, Electrotherapies, Kinesio Taping, and exercise therapy. Becky has completed additional training with Tom Goom (AKA The Running Physio) in bio-mechanical assessment and treatment of runners.
Furthermore, Becky specialises in the assessment and treatment of Horse Riders, with specific Pilates for Horse Riders skills and training with Andy Thomas (Event Physio, Former British Equestrian Federation human equestrian athlete physiotherapist and current United States Equestrian Federation physiotherapist) in the Physiotherapy assessment and management of the human equestrian athlete, using Andy's TESTT system.
VETERINARY PHYSIOTHERAPY
Becky completed her PG Dip. in Veterinary Physiotherapy at the University of Liverpool, achieving a Distinction. She is a Cat. A member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT).
Becky has trained with some of the leading ACPAT Chartered Physiotherapists and veterinary surgeons in the UK and abroad including:
- Rachel Greetham (Team GB Equine Performance and Equine Olympic physiotherapist)
- Kate Hesse and Kate Stephens from On Track Physiotherapy (specialist Newmarket based Racing physiotherapists)
- Dr. Heli Hyytiainen and the team of referral veterinary surgeons from the University of Helsinki Veterinary teaching hospital
Becky has always loved animals and owns a Lusitano gelding (Athos) and Border Terrier x Westie (Shreddie), and understands the frustrations of injuries as an athlete and an owner. "Engage" Physiotherapy is derived from Becky's passionate belief in the importance of pelvic and core control - "engaging the core" - whatever your species or sport!
